Blueprint Metaphor

The information in the State of the Arts Report (SOAR) has been organized using a construction metaphor. We see this information as a blueprint for the future of arts and culture in Ohio. The design of this website and accompanying CD-ROM arranges the information in a circular, rather than a hierarchical, structure. While the information in each chapter can stand alone, all of the chapters interrelate to provide a comprehensive picture of the state's arts and cultural environment. The report is a framework that will allow the user to draw conclusions while making contrasts and comparisons.

From the beginning, our plan was to make this data adaptable and usable in any community and for any citizen in the state. We chose to present this wealth of information through a website and interactive CD-ROM because these methods of delivery provide greater flexibility than a written report.

Each chapter of the report is organized on this website as follows:

  • Relationship to the Blueprint - This section provides a brief explanation of who was surveyed in each chapter.
  • Groundbreaking - This section provides information on how the data was collected for each chapter.
  • Tools - This section provides links within the SOAR website, which allow the user to view and study the actual survey instruments, focus group questions and field reports.
  • Key Elements of the Infrastructure - This section provides a brief summary of research findings.
  • For More Information - This section provides links to additional local, state and national research, and information on how to learn more about the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) and SOAR.

We challenge you to study the data and choose the points that are relevant to you and your interests as an organization or to you personally. Do you agree or disagree with the findings in your region of the state? Do you know of additional research that will complement the State of the Arts Report? Which sections of the report would you like to test in your community?

The OAC is interested in your feedback. Please E-mail your comments and suggestions to webmaster@oac.state.oh.us.
